Book Signing
On Saturday 14th October, I did a book signing at Westcountry Books in Newton Abbot. The weather was fine and sunny but with a cool and bracing wind. It seemed ideal weather for some shopping and this proved to be the case, as there were lots of customers in the bookshop. I signed several copies of my book and chatted to customers about their reading tastes. One regular customer, who had read my book, was impressed with the chapter in which the mother talked to her husband about anti-Semitism. I remember working very hard on that chapter to try to get it just right. This customer, an avid reader, was keen to read my next novel, Rainbow over Rocheville.
I was pleased to see a young lad obtaining a Thomas the Tank Engine book, with a delighted look in his eye. It reminded me of my childhood in the 1950s, when I was given at birthdays a whole series of the books about Thomas and his friends. I have still got them now, but they are second editions. They are still of great sentimental value. If I had to go on a desert island, they would come with me.
Some family members then came over from Tavistock and we went for a late lunch at the excellent Pizza Café, just a short distance along Queen Street.
Then back home to see Wales lose at the Rugby Union World Cup. Like many days there is good and bad, but always remember the good bits.
