King
Arthur
“King
Arthur, at last we know who this great hero was, thanks to the amazing medieval
manuscript now discovered in Brittany.”
So
says the eminent Professor Bronwen Williams in the Preface to my new novel,
“The Migrants”, which is set in the fifth century AD. At this crucial time in
history, the Roman legions had been withdrawn from Britain, leading to
invasions by the Anglo-Saxons and the Picts. The fictional professor is an
expert on this period.
To
escape these invasions, some Britons migrated to Brittany (a regions where we
now find so many Welsh or Cornish-sounding names).
The
novel follows the colourful lives of two British families who made their homes
in Brittany. All sorts of adventures and activities take place, including
battles, skirmishes, miracles, and a pilgrimage. But what will we discover
about King Arthur? The contents of the manuscript will be revealed.
I
am delighted that Austin Macauley will be publishing this historical novel (set
in a period in which there is so far very little historical fiction).
A
great deal of research was needed to write this novel and which enabled me to
bring the history to life by relating events to individual people and their many
challenges.
I
hope that the readers will thoroughly enjoy the novel.
